Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder make sure it’s fresh
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 ¼ cups milk whole milk works best, but any milk will do
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted (plus more for greasing the pan)
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup fresh fruit, whipped cream, or powdered sugar

Instructions

Step 1: Mix the dry ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. This ensures everything is evenly combined before you add the wet ingredients.

Step 2: Add the wet ingredients

  • Create a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the milk, egg, and melted butter. Gently whisk everything together until just combined. It’s okay if the batter is a little lumpy—overmixing can make the pancakes dense.

Step 3: Let the batter rest

  • Let the batter sit for about 5–10 minutes. This step helps the baking powder activate and gives you those wonderfully fluffy pancakes.

Step 4: Preheat your skillet

  • While the batter rests, heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease the surface with a small amount of butter or nonstick spray.

Step 5: Cook the pancakes

  • Pour ¼ cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and the edges look set, about 2–3 minutes. Flip and cook the other side for another 1–2 minutes until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Step 6: Serve and enjoy

  • Stack the pancakes on a plate and serve warm with your favorite toppings. Don’t forget the maple syrup—it’s a must!
