Total Time 30 minutes mins
- 2 hot Italian turkey sausage links casings removed
- 1 cup reduced-fat ricotta cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 prebaked 12-inch thin whole wheat pizza crust
- 1 medium sweet red pepper julienned
- 1 small onion halved and thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
- 1/2 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
- 2 cups arugula or baby spinach
Preheat your oven to 450°F. Place a rack in the lower third of the oven for even baking.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the turkey sausage and cook, breaking it into crumbles, until no longer pink (about 4-6 minutes). Set aside.
In a small bowl, combine the ricotta cheese with garlic powder. Stir until smooth and evenly seasoned.
Place the prebaked pizza crust onto a baking sheet. Spread the ricotta mixture evenly over the crust, leaving a small border around the edges.
Top the pizza with the cooked sausage, red pepper slices, and onion. Sprinkle with the Italian seasoning, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes if you'd like some heat.
Finish the toppings with shredded mozzarella cheese. Bake on the lower oven rack for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges of the crust are lightly browned and the cheese is melted.
Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh arugula. Slice and serve warm!
