Ingredients

  • 2 hot Italian turkey sausage links casings removed
  • 1 cup reduced-fat ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 prebaked 12-inch thin whole wheat pizza crust
  • 1 medium sweet red pepper julienned
  • 1 small onion halved and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
  • 1/2 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups arugula or baby spinach

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F. Place a rack in the lower third of the oven for even baking.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the turkey sausage and cook, breaking it into crumbles, until no longer pink (about 4-6 minutes). Set aside.
  • In a small bowl, combine the ricotta cheese with garlic powder. Stir until smooth and evenly seasoned.
  • Place the prebaked pizza crust onto a baking sheet. Spread the ricotta mixture evenly over the crust, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Top the pizza with the cooked sausage, red pepper slices, and onion. Sprinkle with the Italian seasoning, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes if you'd like some heat.
  • Finish the toppings with shredded mozzarella cheese. Bake on the lower oven rack for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges of the crust are lightly browned and the cheese is melted.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh arugula. Slice and serve warm!
