Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, or more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 (6-ounce) salmon steaks

Instructions

  • Mix the marinade: Combine sesame oil, lemon juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame seeds, ground mustard, ground ginger, and garlic powder in a small saucepan. Simmer over low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Set aside 1/2 cup for basting.
  • Marinate the salmon: Pour the remaining marinade into a resealable plastic bag. Add the salmon steaks, ensuring they’re well-coated. Squeeze out excess air, seal, and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.
  • Preheat the broiler: Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the broiler.
  • Broil the salmon: Place the marinated salmon steaks on a foil-lined baking sheet. Broil for 5 minutes, brushing with the reserved marinade. Flip and broil for another 5 minutes or until the salmon is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  • Finish and serve: Brush the salmon with any remaining marinade before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

Don’t skip the marination: Even 30 minutes makes a difference, but 1-2 hours ensures the salmon is bursting with flavor.
