Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds medium, deveined shrimp (tail-on or peeled)
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¾ teaspoon smoked paprika (or standard paprika)
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¾ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 3 tablespoons butter or olive oil
  • 3 pieces lemon wedges
  • Fresh parsley or cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  • Thaw the shrimp, if frozen, and pat them dry with a paper towel to ensure a good sear.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the shrimp with kosher salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cumin. Mix until the shrimp are evenly coated in the seasoning.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the butter or olive oil. (Tip: If you’re worried about butter burning, use olive oil to start and finish with a pat of butter for flavor.)
  • Once the skillet is hot, add the shrimp in a single layer. Cook each side for 1-2 minutes, flipping with tongs, until the shrimp are opaque and slightly golden around the edges.
  • Spritz the shrimp with fresh lemon juice just before serving and garnish with chopped parsley or cilantro.
