Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds medium or large shrimp, deveined (tail on or peeled)
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Heaping 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari or coconut aminos)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil

Instructions

  • Prep your shrimp: If your shrimp is frozen, thaw it under cool running water. Pat it dry with paper towels to help it sear properly.
  • Mix the seasoning: Toss the shrimp with minced garlic, onion powder, and kosher salt in a medium bowl.
  • Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch until smooth (don’t worry if it’s slightly lumpy).
  • Cook the shrimp: Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side, flipping with tongs, until the shrimp turns pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the pan and set aside.
  • Make the glaze: Lower the heat slightly and pour the honey garlic sauce into the pan. Stir quickly, scraping up any browned bits, until the sauce thickens to a glossy glaze.
  • Combine and serve: Add the shrimp back to the skillet, tossing to coat in the glaze. Serve immediately over steamed rice, noodles, or vegetables for a complete meal.
