Cuisine American
- ½ cup unsalted butter at room temperature
- 2 cups confectioners' sugar sifted
- 1 ½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 3 drops food coloring or as needed (optional)
Gather the ingredients. Have all your ingredients measured and ready to go for smooth preparation.
Cream the butter. Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium-high speed until smooth and fluffy. This usually takes about 2 minutes.
Add the confectioners' sugar. Gradually beat in the sifted confectioners' sugar, one spoonful at a time, until fully incorporated. Start on low speed to avoid a sugar cloud, then increase the speed to medium.
Add vanilla and milk. Mix in the vanilla extract, followed by the milk, and beat on medium-high for another 3 to 4 minutes. The frosting should be light and easily spreadable.
Add color (if desired). If you’d like to add a pop of color, mix in a few drops of your chosen food coloring and beat for 30 seconds until evenly distributed.
