For the brownie base:
- 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the maple pecan pie topping:
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar packed
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Prepare the brownie base
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until fully combined.
Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Stir gently until the batter is smooth and no streaks of flour remain.
Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.
Make the maple pecan pie topping
In another bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, brown sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Fold in the chopped pecans, ensuring they’re evenly coated.
Assemble and bake
Pour the maple pecan mixture over the brownie batter, spreading it gently to cover the surface.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center looks slightly jiggly (it will firm up as it cools).
Remove the pan from the oven and let the brownies cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment paper overhang.
