Ingredients

For the brownie base:

  • 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the maple pecan pie topping:

  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

Prepare the brownie base

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until fully combined.
  • Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Stir gently until the batter is smooth and no streaks of flour remain.
  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.

Make the maple pecan pie topping

  • In another bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, brown sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Fold in the chopped pecans, ensuring they’re evenly coated.

Assemble and bake

  • Pour the maple pecan mixture over the brownie batter, spreading it gently to cover the surface.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center looks slightly jiggly (it will firm up as it cools).
  • Remove the pan from the oven and let the brownies cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment paper overhang.
