Filling
- 6 medium apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Crumble Topping
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
Prepare the apples
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish. In a large mixing bowl, toss the apple slices with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Make sure the apples are evenly coated in the mixture for that perfect sweet and spiced flavor.
Make the oatmeal crumble topping
In a medium bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour the melted butter over the mixture and stir until everything is moistened and crumbly. This oatmeal crumble topping is the secret to that perfectly crunchy apple crisp!
Top and bake
Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples, making sure to cover them completely. Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling around the edges.
