Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • Grill or stovetop skillet
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey 93% lean for the best juiciness
  • 1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce minced (add more if you like it spicy)
  • 1 tablespoon adobo sauce from the chipotle can
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs helps the burgers hold their shape
  • 1 egg lightly beaten

Optional Toppings:

  • Sliced avocado
  • Pepper jack cheese
  • Fresh lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Chipotle mayo just mix mayo with a little adobo sauce

Instructions

Step 1: Mix the turkey burger mixture

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, minced chipotle pepper, adobo sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, breadcrumbs, and egg.
  • Use your hands or a spoon to gently mix everything together until evenly combined. Be careful not to overmix, this can make the burgers tough.

Step 2: Shape the patties

  • Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb, this helps them cook evenly and prevents them from puffing up.

Step 3: Cook the burgers

  • Heat a grill or skillet over medium heat. Lightly coat the surface with oil to prevent sticking.
  • Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4–5 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Avoid pressing down on the patties while cooking to keep them juicy.

Step 4: Add toppings and serve

  • Once cooked, let the patties rest for a minute or two. Then, assemble your burgers with your favorite toppings.
  • I love adding creamy avocado, pepper jack cheese, and a drizzle of chipotle mayo for an extra kick. Serve on a toasted bun, and enjoy!
