Ingredients

  • 1 large head cabbage, finely chopped
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes with juice
  • 1 onion halved and thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 pound lean ground beef

Instructions

  • Start with prep: Gather all your ingredients. Chop the cabbage into fine pieces and slice the onion into thin half-moon slices.
  • Cook the cabbage mix: In a large Dutch oven or pot, place the cabbage, diced tomatoes with their juice, sliced onion, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture begins to simmer.
  • Add the beef: Crumble the ground beef on top of the simmering cabbage mixture. Cover the pot and cook, stirring occasionally to break up the meat, until the cabbage is tender and the beef is fully cooked (about 45 minutes).
  • Serve: Once everything is cooked through, your cabbage and ground beef skillet is ready to enjoy. Serve it as is, or pair it with cornbread and corn on the cob for a complete meal.
