Course Breakfast
Cuisine American
- 1 cup instant oats or rolled oats, if preferred
- 2 cups milk dairy or plant-based, like almond or oat milk
- 1 medium apple diced (any variety works, but Honeycrisp or Fuji are especially delicious)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar or maple syrup adjust to taste
- Pinch of salt
Optional toppings:
- chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans, raisins, chia seeds, or a dollop of yogurt
Prepare the oatmeal:
In a separate saucepan, combine the instant oats, milk, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are creamy and cooked through.
Serve and top:
Divide the oatmeal into bowls and add your favorite toppings. I love adding a handful of chopped walnuts, a sprinkle of chia seeds, and an extra dash of cinnamon for a little extra texture and flavor.
